Craig Johnson, author of the Longmire series of mystery books, visited the  Bandon Library on Monday April 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

The event was sponsored by the Bandon Library and the Friends of the Bandon Library.  It was free to attend and over 150 people did. Craig proved to be as wonderful at speaking as he is at writing.  He amused and amazed everyone and nobody wanted him to leave.  We all want him to come back again soon.

Coos County’s library system is unique in the state of Oregon. Most libraries have a central library and branches. They are funded from their county’s General Fund. Our system is a cooperative of 8 public libraries and the Extended Services office, all funded through a dedicated tax base. Money from property taxes goes into a common pot and then is divided among all the libraries. This means that all taxpayers “own” all of the libraries. This money can only be used for library operations, staff and material. It cannot be used for new building construction or maintenance.

The system works well because each library remains a city library and accountable to the citizens of its area. At the same time we share our collections, have a common library card, catalog and fines system and plan collective grants and projects that benefit us all. The system works seamlessly, has low overhead with no central headquarters, and stays responsive to local needs. It’s a very good system and we take pride in it.

March 2017 the 5 Libraries of Curry County joined the 8 Coos County Libraries.  We will share books, DVD’s, CD’s, magazines, all these materials will be available for you to put on hold and have them brought to Bandon for your reading, listening and viewing pleasure.  We are really enjoying this expansion, and from the amount of materials moving through our system, everyone is enjoying all the Libraries.

We have a great DVD collection!

New movies are always being added to our extensive DVD catalog, so check back often. Any Coastline card holder can place holds on our collection and the items can be transported to the Coastline library of your choice for easy pickup!
